Transparently, Leica is a well-known camera maker and also has a series of smartphones dedicated to exceptional cameras. Now the brand is entering a new era as it is setting up to introduce a new model named ‘Leitz Phone 3.’
Leica previously introduced a line of smartphones dedicated to exceptional cameras, although, unfortunately, the phones are not as popular. Now the brand is gearing up to launch a new smartphone mainly focused on offering high-end camera specifications.
It is reported by the German website Stadt-Bremerhaven that Leica is preparing to launch its latest device, the Leitz Phone 3. This exclusive launch will be limited to the Japanese market, a move that aligns with the brand’s older smartphone launches in the East Asian country. The forthcoming smartphone will debut on April 19, 2024.
Since the Leica Leitz Phone 3 is dedicated to a high-end camera, let’s take a closer look at its camera setup.
- The reports are saying that the phone will feature a 47.2 MP primary 1-inch sensor with an aperture of f/1.9.
- A depth sensor with 1.9 MP also accompanies the primary camera.
- A 12.6 MP selfie camera.
Somewhere, so far, the camera configuration reminds me of the Leitz Phone 2. The brand has officially confirmed that the forthcoming phone will feature a variable aperture, which will adjust the opening of the camera sensor to enhance the photography experience in different lighting scenarios, and will be implemented through software tweaks.
The software will simulate the performance of Leica’s renowned Noctilux-M 1:1.2/50 mm, Summilux-M 1:1.4/28 mm, and Summilyx-M 1:1.4/35mm sensors, permitting users to select between f/1.2, f/1.4, and f/8 aperture levels.
Leitz Phone 3 will offer a special feature named the “Golden Hour” widget to suggest ideal outdoor photography times and may showcase Leica’s best shots. The brand will power the device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and run Android 14, and the memory package will include 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The battery will be 5000mAh, andthe device will feature a 6.6-inch Pro-IGZO OLED display with a refresh rate of 240Hz. The price has not officially been revealed yet. However, the camera sensor on these devices could be capable of switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4 apertures, permitting users to take perfectly fine shots even in low-light scenes, and the variable aperture is one of those features that we hope Samsung brings back to its smartphones.
