Samsung debuted the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 both in 2020, when it used to commit to three years of major OS updates and four years of security patches. As per the commitment, the timeline unfortunately came to an end, and now both are only eligible to get quarterly security patches.
Sadly, the Samsung Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 have already grabbed their three major OS updates and reached an Android 13-based One UI version. But the graze of Samsung has downgraded the Galaxy S20 to a quarterly security update schedule, extending its software support cycle.
SamMobile initially speculated that Samsung included the Galaxy S20 series and the Galaxy Note 20 series in its April security bulletin. These devices are mentioned in the brand’s quarterly security updates list, which means that the brand will only provide one security patch to both devices every three months. On the other hand, the Galaxy S20 will get security patches for another year, although less frequently. These security patches will not deliver any major changes but will surely fix minor security bugs.
Now Samsung has also downgraded the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy Note 20 devices to the quarterly update list. Samsung launched the phone a few months after the Galaxy S20; they should have received monthly security patches, if not for so long, but for now at least, before being put on the same path as the Galaxy S20.
However, as an initial promise, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 FE should get a few more months of software patches. But the fact is, both devices have already lost their software support and will soon also be off the security patch list.
