Samsung rarely steps out of its commitment, especially for its software support, whether it is about offering or snatching; unfortunately, it is ready to snatch regular software support from several older Galaxy devices, which have already grabbed their allotted updates.
From offering three major OS updates and four years of security patches to seven years of long-lasting software support, Samsung has come so far to keep the devices upgraded. Recently, it committed seven years of software support for the latest Galaxy S24 series, whereas several older Galaxy devices have long since ended their life cycle as far as software support is concerned.
Here we are talking about the Galaxy devices that have reached a further step, which will naturally lead them to no longer receive updates from the manufacturer. Undoubtedly, Samsung is one of the brands that always delivers the latest software updates, whether it is about major OS updates or monthly security patches. However, for a few older Galaxy smartphones, software support for the new major Android OS and One UI 6.0 has ended. Despite that, these smartphones still get security patches, but the catch is not monthly but quarterly.
Here we are listing the Galaxy devices that move to the quarterly release cycle:
- Galaxy S20 Ultra
- Galaxy S20+
- Galaxy S20
- Galaxy S20 FE
- Galaxy Note 20
- Galaxy Note 20 Ultra
So the owners of these devices may get the next update in June since the update timeline for these older Galaxy devices is unclear. As per the nature of Samsung, it may not provide any software updates at all but can also offer one-time security fixes in June only if crucial vulnerabilities occur.
Samsung Software Support End for these Galaxy Devices
Apart from the devices mentioned above, it is sad to relate, but the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip comes at the end of its software support cycle. Back in 2020, the brand launched it on Android 10 and committed three major OS updates and four years of security patch support for this, and now it is running on Android 13, which means it has already received all the updates as promised, not only major OS updates but also security patches.
Also, two more devices named Galaxy M21, the 2020 variant, and Galaxy M31 reached the end of their software support period. Noticeably, the device variant with 5G connectivity should still get a security patch by the first half of the year.
