Samsung initially introduced One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S24 series, then expanded it to 2023 high-end Galaxy devices, and now 2022 flagship devices are in line to receive the update. This update has disabled notification channels on all One UI 6.1 devices.
Android 14-based One UI 6.1 is a major software update that not only brings improvements, changes, or new features but also brings many of the Galaxy S24’s generative AI features to older devices such as the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy Z Fold 5, and Flip 5. The update not only brings new novelties but also disables notification channels on all One UI 6.1 devices.
The reason behind disabling the notification channels appears as One UI 6.1 on the Galaxy S24 brings a new toggle called “Manage notification categories for each application,” which is disabled by default. Google calls this category “notification channels,” which were added to Android back in 2017 along with 80 Oreo.
This feature permits you to choose which categories of notifications an application can send. Once you install One UI 6.1 on your Galaxy device, the new toggle will be housed in your settings application, and it will be disabled by default. Although it is easy to switch them back on, while switching them back, you will get back to your old settings.
Interested parties can follow the steps mentioned here to get notification channels up and running again.
- Go to Settings App, tap on the Notifications menu, scroll down to Advanced Settings, and turn on Manage notification categories for each app.
